As a manufacturer of ‘Bespoke Hardwood Furniture’ we have the capability to manufacture ‘Bespoke Joinery’ and a number of our customers have asked us if we can provide this service.

As a result of this we are happy to consider enquiries for the manufacture and installation of the following joinery, in either softwood or hardwood:

The design of this Coffee Table called for the construction of a strong box-frame to support the weight of the six back-to-back drawers, designed for storage of DVD’s and CD’s. The box-frame and top sits on a separate base-frame and this allows the coffee table to be easily moved if necessary, once the drawers have been removed.

Solid Hardwood

I recently made this coffee table for a customer in Glasgow, which is a variation on the coffee table that I designed and made for myself (as a prototype) in American Cherry, as featured under Our Furniture - Lounge Furniture.

As the customer specified Hardwood throughout, I didn’t use any MDF for the carcass and as a consequence of this the drawer fronts and top were simplified, without the mitred hardwood framing as previously featured. I think both styles look good but the quality of the coffee table in solid hardwood throughout is better, although this comes with a cost premium!

Sawdust

Making furniture involves planing, sawing and shaping timber (mostly hardwood) and this produces a considerable amount of waste in the form of sawdust, woodchip and solid timber offcuts. Whilst I have found a great way to make use of and thereby dispose of the timber off-cuts by burning them in my ‘Wood-Burning Stove’ on cold days throughout the year, I have yet to find an outlet for the sawdust and woodchip.

I probably produce around 3-4 (90l) bags of sawdust a week, so if anyone has a use for this please let me know and you can take it away free of charge, otherwise it will just end up at the dump.

Alternatively, if I could find a small scale briquetting machine that didn’t cost too much I could also turn this into fuel for the ‘Wood Burning Stove’ and save more money on gas!

American Cherry

I’ve just started making a new coffee table for a customer in Troon and they chose to have it made from American Cherry to match an existing dining table. I’ve used this timber extensively in the past and never had a problem getting the right quality from the timber merchant, however it appears that American Cherry is not as popular as it used to be several years ago and I had real problems trying to get timber with a consistent colour and minimal sapwood content. I had to go through a couple of stacks at the timber yard before I found the six pieces that I needed to do the job.

Just finished glueing and clamping up the two end frames forming the coffee table and it looks great and in spite of the problems getting the right quality of timber, I would certainly recommend using American Cherry to my customers in future, It’s beautiful!
